Canal spill

A Dutch general cargoship has spilled a small amount of oil into the Kiel Canal in Germany.

Local reports said the 4,500-dwt Sereno (built 1991) lost 500 litres on 2 February at Holtenau.

The spill originated on deck and some oil flowed over the sides into the icy canal.

Some wildlife have reportedly been affected by the incident.

The vessel is operated by Kornet and Zonen of the Netherlands.
